Privacy Policy
Last updated 7 September 2026
The short version. There are no accounts and no database. Your estimates live in your own browser, not on a server. To turn your voice into an estimate, what you say has to be sent to two AI companies who do the transcription and the writing up. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone else.
Who runs this
SayTheJob is a small independent product. If you have a question about anything here, get in touch at hello@saythejob.app.
What we collect
- What you say or type about a job. If you use your voice, that means the audio you record. If you type instead, no audio is recorded at all.
- The estimate that comes back, including anything you add such as a customer name, address or note.
- Which steps you reached, along with a random ID for your browser, so we can count how many people finish an estimate.
- Standard web request information, including your IP address, which is how any website works.
We never ask for your name, your email or a password, because there are no accounts.
Who else is involved
Turning speech into a written estimate needs specialist services, so some of the above passes through them:
- OpenAI turns your voice into text and provides the assistant's spoken replies.
- Anthropic turns that text into the estimate.
- PostHog receives which steps you reached and the random browser ID. It does not receive your estimates.
- Vercel and Cloudflare serve the site and block abuse.
Each has its own privacy policy covering what they do with what they receive. We do not sell your information, and it goes nowhere beyond those four.
What we keep, and where
On your device. Your business name, your most recent estimate, a random ID for your browser, a count of estimates you have made, and a couple of settings such as whether the voice is switched on. This lives in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers, and clearing your browser data deletes all of it permanently. We cannot recover it, because we never had it.
On our servers. Almost nothing. We record that steps happened, such as "an estimate was built" or "a PDF was saved", along with the random browser ID and a count. We deliberately do not log the contents of your estimates, your customers' names or addresses, your prices, or your transcripts.
Your customers' details. If you put a customer's name or address into an estimate, that text goes to Anthropic as part of writing it up, and stays in your browser afterwards. It is not stored on our servers.
Cookies and tracking
No advertising cookies, and nothing that follows you to other websites. PostHog stores a random identifier in your browser so that a returning visitor is not counted twice. That identifier is not linked to your name, your email or anything you can be identified by, because we never ask for those.
Your choices
- Type instead of talking. There is a Type it instead option on the first screen. Nothing is recorded and no audio is sent anywhere.
- Delete everything, yourself. Clearing your browser data for this site removes your business name, your saved estimate, your browser ID and your settings. That is the whole of what is kept about you, and once it is gone there is nothing left that connects to you.
- Ask us anything. Email hello@saythejob.app with any question about your information.
Children
SayTheJob is a tool for working tradespeople and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Estimates are drafts
An estimate produced here is a starting point written by a computer from what you said. Check the numbers before you send one to a customer. You are responsible for what you send.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. There are no accounts, so we have no way to email you about it.
